Product Details

The day will begin with a quick tour of Strickley's hedgerow management and the role they play in our farm management and the benefits to livestock and wildlife.

Then it's out to the hedge to learn the basics of hedgelaying before getting everyone hands on with an axe and billhook.

Claire & James will be on hand to share their experience and help everyone become more confident in hedgelaying.

A hot homemade lunch is included in the ticket price.

Timings - 9.30am - 3.30pm

A minimum of 4 people per day will be required. In the event of a day not reaching this number of bookings, that day will not run, and we will contact those with tickets to sort out an alternative.

FAQ

What clothing should I wear? Thick thornproof gloves to be worn whilst hedging. Warm clothing recommended, but something that is flexible is best. Something that you don’t mind getting snagged on thorns too!
What if it rains? Light rain is ok for hedgelaying, but if it’s forecast heavy rain we may have to reschedule.
Should I bring my own tools? If you have your own tools, please bring them, but we will provide all the tools that you need for the day. But no chainsaws to be used by visitors.
How do I find the event? Unfortunately our postcode (LA8 0LU) will take you to next door farm. There will be signs at our lane end, but the best way is to use What3Words ///mercy.glad.gilding
Can I use public transport? Strickley is only one mile from Oxenholme railway station on the west coast mainline. We will be able to pick you up and drop off if you wish to take the train to Oxenholme.

How many people will be on the course? The maximum number of people per day is 10. We will split into two groups of 5, that way everyone will get chance to do plenty of practical work.
